CCS Students Volunteer at Food Bank

CCS students recently volunteered at the Oregon Food Bank. This is an ongoing service project of Columbia students and one of the many ways our school strives to be of service to our local community. Below is the letter from the Food Bank to Mrs. Nancy Dawkins, one of our teacher sponsors. "Then I, the King, shall say to those at my right, 'Come, blessed of my Father, into the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. For I was hungry and you fed me'" (Matthew 25:34-35).

Dear Nancy,

Thank you for organizing Columbia Christian School’s volunteer event at Oregon Food Bank on Tuesday. Your team of 33 worked diligently to pack 8,190 pounds of pears and pasta! Many small tasks came together to achieve this. Our thanks go to the scoopers, baggers, twist tiers, and box makers. In a single visit, your group packed enough food to provide 7,692 meals for people in need. Each member of your team can be proud of their individual contribution. They packed 233 meals each.

In
Oregon and Clark County Washington, an estimated 240,000 people eat from an emergency food box in an average month.  Your volunteer service helps our many neighbors who aren’t sure where their next meal will come from.

Thank you so much.  I am always so happy when I see Columbia Christian on my schedule!  This group was energetic and enthusiastic.  It’s really gratifying to see the same faces over and over, and to see that the returning kids really have a sense of pride as they teach their classmates the ropes. I look forward to your next visit!

Sincerely,

Julia and the OFB Volunteer Team
